Pale yellow colour, almost white. Nose of green apple, mineral with hints of yeast. Nice acidity. Light on the palate. A bit short on the finish.
Mailly Reserve Grand Cru Champagne NV Brut
$97.99 (reg) $78.99 (FOV)
Pale golden yellow colour. Nose of peaches and apricots, with a hint of vanilla, yeast, bread, and toast. Very fruit-forward. Tangy on the palate. Nice round mouthfeel. A balanced and beautiful champagne!
Chateau Lespault-Mar3llac, Pessac Blanc 2016
$74.99 (reg) $61.99 (FOV)
Pale straw colour. Nose of guava, and other stone fruit, and honey. Tangy round mouthfeel.
Heavier body for a white wine. Perfect pairing with an oily white meat fish or chicken.
Chateau Haut-Bergey, Pessac Leognan 2005
$99.99 (reg) $79.99 (FOV)
Dark garnet colour. Nose of raspberry, dark cherry, currant with clove, plum and other spices. Soft tannins and balanced with acidity. Nice mouthfeel with a nice medium finish. Incredible for its age and price point. It's probably at its early drinking window, but still has some more years to go. This is the value of the night.
Chateau Troplong Mondot, Saint Emilion 2006
$191.11 (reg) $153.99 (FOV)
Dark, ruby, inky colour. Clovey, plumy nose with vanilla, dark black fruit with a hint of chocolate and coffee. Hints of soil and rocks. Full body and yet surprisingly approachable on the palate, but not coming across as heavy. Powerful. Well balanced and textured. Silky soft tannins. Nice round mouthfeel. Long nice finish. Surprisingly youthful for its age. Probably still has quite a way to age. An excellent example of what a Saint Emilion should be.
Chateau Fleur Cardinale, Saint Emilion 2014
$118.99(reg) $94.99 (FOV)
This wine was not on our program, but a gift courtesy of Cork Fine Wine.
Dark ruby colour. The nose of boysenberry, clove, plum, vanilla and chocolate. Still quite tannic. Nice mouthfeel. Medium finish. Good Saint Emilion.
Chateau Cantenac Brown, Margaux 2010
$209.99 (reg) $167.99 (FOV)
Dark red ruby colour, almost inky. Nose of black fruit, plum, clove, and other herbs with hints of vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Soft silky tannins. Well-balanced, smooth and supple. Lovely mouthfeel and nice medium finish. This wine has the most finesse of the night. Everything is there but discrete, well-integrated, and nothing stands out of balance. A nice example of a good Margaux should be.
Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac 2015
$199.99 (reg) $159.99 (FOV)
Dark inky garnet colour. Nose of black currant, blackberry, blueberry, chocolate, coffee, vanilla and wood. Soft silky tannins and a round mouthfeel. Longish finish. Elegant and well-balanced. Still quite youthful. This wine has quite a long life ahead. I can see this age for a good decade.
Chateau Haut-Baily, Pesac Leognan 2018
$349.99 (reg) $279.99 (FOV)
This is the baby of the night. Dark garnet colour. Nose packed with red and black fruit. The
spices and herbs are also there, but hiding behind the fruits. Very well structured,
balanced and layered. Still very tannic. Very long finish. You need to be patient with this wine. Ten to 20 years of ageing potential. But it will reward you with your patience and mature into a star.
